Yvonne Marie McGowan, 74, transitioned to her eternal home on October 20, 2026. Born on February 10, 1952, in Alton, Illinois, to John and Della Tolbert, Yvonne lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
On September 19, 2008, she married her soulmate, Robert McGowan, a union blessed with love and companionship. She dearly loved her family and her little dog, who was always by her side.
Yvonne served faithfully at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a proud member of the choir. She shared her gift for gospel music for many years, stepping back only when her health declined. Her ministry through song uplifted all who heard her.
She dedicated 31 years of hard work to Olin Corporation, where she formed lasting friendships and was respected for her commitment and work ethic.
She leaves to celebrate her life her son, Kenneth Womack of Edwardsville, IL, of whom she was very proud; her granddaughters, Raven Morgan of Edwardsville, IL, and Kennedy Womack of Baton Rouge, LA (LSU student); eight stepchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Special acknowledgment is given to her goddaughter, Shavonn Vaughn, whose loving care was a blessing during Yvonne’s declining health.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert McGowan; her sisters Jaunita North, Maxine Reed, Darlene Tolbert (infant), and Charlene Tate; and her brother John Tolbert Jr. (toddler).
Visitation will convene Saturday, October 31, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Darrel McCrady will officiate.
