A past president of the Geneva branch of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union was found guilty of falsifying reimbursement documents. Mark Valerio, who acted as president from 2003 to 2012, pleaded guilty this week of violating a provision of the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act.
Valerio obtained reimbursement from the IBEW totaling over $39,000 by submitting duplicate claims for reimbursement of his travel expenses. Some of the money he claimed was already reimbursed to him through his branch, while he copied and resubmitted other claim forms.
He now faces up to one year in prision and a fine of up to $10,000.
