The senators looking into Illinois’ school financing inequities know this much: identifying the problem is the easy part. The chairman of the Senate Education Funding Advisory Committee, State Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), told superintendent Chris Koch he wanted some ideas from him and his board. A consultant's report, Manar says, focuses on “inequity more so than adequacy, which, I think, reflects where we have gotten thus far with our discussions.”

“It's been incredibly revealing to us,” Koch responded, “to be in oversight of two low-performing districts where a lot of money has been spent for little results,” referring to North Chicago and East St Louis.
Manar is hoping to introduce a bill in the spring.
