Matt Carpenter homered and scored twice but the Cardinals suffered a 6-4 loss to the Brewers at Miller Park. Joe Kelly was tagged for six runs in seven innings, but only three were earned. He fell to 9-and-5 as St. Louis saw its NL Central lead trimmed to two games over the Reds and Pirates.
The Cardinals begin the final week of the regular season with a three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Busch Stadium. St. Louis has clinched a playoff spot but has a two-game lead over Pittsburgh and Cincinnati for first place in the NL Central. The Cards send Adam Wainwright to the mound to start the series opener tonight.
