Captain Underpants, Fifty Shades of Grey and To Kill A Mockingbird have something in common – They have all been challenged as inappropriate reading material in the last two years. This is Banned Books Week across the country.
Becca Berger of the Door County Library in Sturgeon Bay says it’s been a long time since they had a request to have a book taken off the shelves.
Berger says school reading lists and school libraries are more likely than public libraries to have a title challenged.
Banned Books Week promotes the freedom to read and awareness of censorship in schools and libraries.
