AMC's "Breaking Bad" is celebrating its first Emmy for Outstanding Drama, just a week before the show's highly-anticipated series finale. "Breaking Bad" star Anna Gunn also earned her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles. ABC's "Modern Family" won its fourth consecutive award for Outstanding Comedy, and also claimed victory in the Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series category. HBO's Liberace biopic "Behind the Candelabra" came out in front, winning three awards on Sunday night. Star Michael Douglas was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, while "Behind the Candelabra" director Steven Soderbergh was also victorious. "Homeland's" Claire Danes won her second consecutive award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama. During her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to the Showtime show's late writer Henry Bromell, who posthumously won the award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. HBO's "Veep" nabbed a pair of acting awards, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus earning another win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and Tony Hale winning his first Emmyfor Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy.
"The Newsroom's" Jeff Bridges won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, and "The Big Bang Theory's" Jim Parsons won his third Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy. Stephen Colbert's "The Colbert Report" ended pal Jon Stewart's ten-year reign in the Outstanding Variety Series category, and also won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. Other 2013Emmy winners included "The Big C: Hereafter's" Laura Linney for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, "Nurse Jackie's" Merritt Wever for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy, "Boardwalk Empire's" Bobby Cannavale for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and "30 Rock's" Tina Fey and Tracey Wigfield for outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. David Fincher also won the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series award for the Netflix hit "House of Cards," marking the first Emmy win for original online-only web television.
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted by Neil Patrick Harris from L.A.'s Nokia Theatre. The ceremony also included moving tributes to James Gandolfini, "Glee's" Cory Monteith, Jonathan Winters, Jean Stapleton, Gary David Goldberg and more. The event was broadcast live on CBS.
