Jim Seaquist of Seaquist Orchards says his phone has been busy with people offering information about the destruction of 640 young cherry trees that occurred sometime last Wednesday night or Thursday.
The cherry trees were planted this spring. It takes five or six years for a tree to bear fruit, but they can produce for 25 to 30 seasons. Seaquist says they will replant next spring.
The Orchard is located between Sister Bay and Ellison Bay. Anyone with information about the cherry tree destruction should contact Door County authorities.
Door county authorities have matched a $1,000 reward offered by the orchard for information that leads to arrest and conviction.
The destruction of 640 young cherry trees at Seaquist Orchards last week is called a major crime by Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel…
Vogel says the Sheriff’s department has received a lot of calls, but welcomes more.
Vogel says it must have taken hours to systematically destroy the young trees.
