Just over one-third of Iowa's corn crop is now mature and safe from frost, well below average and this time a year ago. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports the crop stood at 95-percent mature by this time last year. Just 37-percent of Iowa corn is in good to excellent condition, while 34-percent of soybeans are rated the same. Farmland around the state received some much-needed rain over the past week, though soils remain very dry.
