Rock Island Fisherman Lends Boat to Rock Island Fire and Rescue

Sep 24, 2013 6:45 AM

A Rock Island fisherman is being credited for helping save a man from a collapsed canoe on the Mississippi River on Monday. Daryl Cassatt just happened to be in the right place at the right time when members of the Rock Island Fire Department needed a lift to save a man who'd been clinging to the remains of his collapsed canoe for more than 30 minutes. Rock Island Fire and Rescue does not have its own rescue boat, despite being responsible for rescues on both the Mississippi and the Rock River. Thus, Rock Island Fire and Rescue crews turned to Mr. Cassatt who was fishing in the area to help them out. The name of the man in the collapsed canoe was not released nor was his condition following his rescue.
