U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis is traveling around central and southwestern Illinois to officially kick off his re-election campaign.
The first-term Republican from Taylorville is facing a primary challenge from Erika Harold, an Urbana attorney who's a former Miss America.
The campaign for the 13th Congressional District is expected to be 1 of the high-profile races in Illinois, as well as 1 of the most closely watched congressional contests in the country.
Davis started the day in Urbana before traveling to Bloomington. He's also set to make appearances in Decatur, Springfield and Edwardsville.
There are also three Democrats vying to unseat Davis. They include social policy analyst David Green, physicist George Gollin and retired judge Ann Callis.
