Panthers, Blue Demons Set for Midweek Match

The Panther men’s soccer team travels to DePaul on Wednesday, Sept. 25 for a non-conference match. EIU is 0-5-1 on the year while the Blue Demons are 2-4-1.

CHRISTIANSON NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Garet Christianson was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week following his on-field performance at the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic on Sept. 20-22.

After missing the first four matches of the season with an injury, the redshirt-sophomore forward scored two goals in his season debut in the Panthers 4-4 tie with Green Bay on Sept. 20. He also had one goal and one assist in the Panthers 5-4 loss to Evansville on Sept. 22.

SERIES HISTORY WITH DEPAUL
The Panthers are 3-0 all-time against the Blue Demons. EIU won the last meeting between the two schools, 2-0, on Sept. 18, 2010 in Chicago.

PANTHER NOTES

After scoring eight goals in two matches last weekend at the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic, the Panthers now lead the Summit League in total goals (12) and assists (12).
Jake Brillhart leads the conference in points with eight. The junior midfielder has two goals and a conference-leading four assists this season.
Jake Plant is tied for second in the conference in points with seven. The senior defender/midfielder has two goals and three assists this season.
Tayron Martin ranks second in the conference in shots with 16. The junior forward has one goal and one assist this season.
The Panther offense has been balanced this season as eight different players have scored a goal. Six different players have also recorded an assist this season.
The Panthers scored four goals in both matches last weekend against Green Bay and Evansville. The last time EIU scored four goals in a match was in a 4-0 win over Asbury College (Ky.) on Oct. 26, 2009.
The eight goals scored last weekend by EIU was the most goals scored in a two-game span since posting nine goals between Sept. 20, 2008 – Sept. 26, 2008. EIU defeated Central Arkansas, 5-0, on Sept. 20 before defeating Wright State, 4-1, on Sept. 26.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS
DePaul is 2-4-1 this season with a 1-3 record at Wish Field. Eight different players have scored a goal this season, led by Anthony Hunter who has five points (two goals, one assist). Pat Flynn has also scored two goals while Michael Stankiewicz paces the squad with two assists. Defensively, goalkeeper Eric Sorby has a 1.33 goals against average with 47 saves and two shutouts.
