Lakin Seeks Democratic Endorsement

Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio

Glen Carbon Police Chief and former Madison County Chief Deputy Sheriff John Lakin is considering a run for Madison County Sheriff.  Lakin has told Democratic Party leaders in the county of his intention to seek their endorsement.  The party meets next Thursday to consider who it will endorse in all races.

Lakin was hired in 1989 by then-sheriff Bob Churchich.  Lakin says he has always wanted to be sheriff, if he felt his experience would get him there.

Lakin comments

Lakin says it is unlikely he would run if he doesn't receive the party endorsement, but will sit down with his supporters and make a final decision at that time.  Current Sheriff Bob Hertz, also a Democrat, is seeking reelection.  So far, no Republican candidate has declared a run for the office.
