Cullerton Pleased With Lawmaker Pay Ruling

Senate President John Cullerton is pleased about a judge’s ruling that requires the state to pay lawmakers.  He and House Speaker Michael Madigan filed suit after Governor Quinn slashed their pay from the budget, back in July.  They claimed Quinn had overstepped his boundaries and trumped the separation of powers clause.  But Cullerton says the ruling protects and preserves the Constitution’s separation of powers.  Quinn plans to appeal the ruling.  He still thinks lawmakers shouldn’t be paid until they pass a pension reform bill.  Cullerton says reform is a top priority and members of a special committee are working to reach a solution.
