Eagles and Clippers Football From A Southern Door Perspective

The cross-county rivalry between Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay kicks off tonight. The Eagles come in (1-4) after a 26-20 win over Valders and the Clippers still looking for their first win of the season (0-5) coming off a 50-2 loss to Kewaunee. It has been since 2007 the last time Southern Door has beaten Sturgeon Bay, but that streak could fall tonight.

Last week was the first time the Eagles played well on all sides of the ball, and proved that they are a tough team to stop when that happens. Mitchel Neubauer had good game throwing two touchdowns and the run game was back after a week off when Nolen Wagner rushed for another 100 yard game. On Defense the Eagles were able to create three turnovers and did not give up to many big plays. The real surprise of the game was Keagan Kroening kicking two field goals, one from 37 yards out and was the difference maker in the final outcome.

This week’s game between the Eagles and Clippers is the game that everyone including myself had circled on the calendar. It is not only homecoming week for Sturgeon Bay, but also a homecoming for Southern Door Head Coach Dan McCarty who returns to face is former team where he won a state championship.

The Eagles look to play spoiler and in order to do that, they must keep the Clippers pass game in check and contain Sturgeon Bay’s run game in Lucas Stevenson and Sam Carter. Offensively, the Eagles need to get the ball into their playmakers and put up points early and make the Clippers play catch-up. The Eagles find a way to win, but it may come down to a late field goal by Keegan Kroening to extend the score for the Eagles. Eagles win by 17.
