Sep 27, 2013 7:48 AM

Whilemanypeople haven't even thought about starting their Christmas shopping, there will many families this Christmas season that won't be able to provide gifts for their kids.

The DeWitt County Angel Tree program seeks to help those in need out so the youngsters in low income homes can enjoy the Christmas season. Sue Calvert is the Director of the DeWitt County Angel Tree program. She says they are currently taking applicants for this year's Christmas season. Calvert says there are some things parents must do in order for their kids to be a part of the program.

There are also income guidelines for families to participate. Calvert explains the guidelines are based on the size of the family, and the 30-day income of that family.

There is an interview process, so appointments are necessary. To set up an appointment to apply for Angel Tree assistance, you can contact Anita Russell at 217-935-2455.

Calvert hopes to be able to help all children who apply this year. The adoption process does start in November. Calvert explains donations have been down for the past few years. She hopes to have good participation this year. To contact Calvert about helping with this year's Angel Tree program, you can email her, suecalvert13@gmail.com.
