Sep 27, 2013 7:50 AM

Thisweekend'sAppleN' Pork festival is sure to bring tens-of-thousands of people from all over central Illinois, but one local leader says it's an opportunity to showcase the city for developmental reasons.

Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council, Ruth Stauffer says the weekend is a great economic boom for area businesses and non-profit organizations. Because of that, throughout the weekend she will be showcasing the City to developers and entrepreneurs.

Tourism events are great to showcase to potential entrepreneurs. According to Stauffer, entrepreneurs want to see successful events like the Apple and Pork Festival.

Vendors at the Apple and Pork Festival get very creative during this time. As you walk down Center Street, you'll notice booths and tents set up in homeowner's yards. Stuaffer explains it's that creativity that spurs excitement among entrepreneurs.

The Apple and Pork Festival gets underway Saturday and Sunday morning at 7 am, and runs until 5 pm. Around 8:30, the lines for various food booths on the grounds will start to begin forming.

Be sure to tune into the The Big 1520 AM/92.3 FM WHOW and 95.9 FM WEZC all weekend for live coverage of the 45th Annual Apple N' Pork Festival.
