45th Apple and Pork Festival Kicks Off Saturday Morning

Sep 27, 2013 7:52 AM

The45thAnnualApple & Pork Festival is only a day away and last minute preparations are underway.

Apple & Pork is the biggest weekend of the year in Clinton. Each festival has many features visitors look forward to each year. There will be 28 food booths out on the grounds. One new booth will have ground pork patty sandwiches sponsored by a local Boy Scout troupe. Larry Buss, Resident Manager of the DeWitt County Museum, encourages visitors to wait until they come to the museum grounds before they eat. While he has nothing against commercial vendors, he explains that the food on the grounds are specialties that you can't find anywhere else.

There are many local non-profit groups involved in the various food booths. Buss explains that most groups make their budget through the year through Apple & Pork sales. He adds that while the Festival disrupts the town for two days, he's glad that most groups can have their needs met in one weekend.

There will be many entertainment opportunities at the Festival this year. The main stage will have some returning favorites including the High School band. The Templeton Family Band will also return to this year's Apple & Pork. Other various country and rock bands will be take part as well.

The Apple & Pork Festival kicks off tomorrow and continues on Sunday.

For live coverage of the Festival, tune into the Big 1520 AM/92.3 FM WHOW and 95.9 WEZC all weekend.
