Ron Howard's Rush is a visceral, blood pumping, heart racing sports movie that never falls into the typical traps of the sports movie genre. Smarter and with better direction and a sharper edge, Rush tells the story of F1 Racing rivals Nikki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) and James Hunt (Chris 'Thor' Hemsworth) who risked their lives on a weekly basis to one up each other on the race track. The film follows closely the race circuit of 1976 when Lauda was the defending champion and Hunt his top challenger. Those familiar with F1 Racing history knows that the sport was among the most dangerous on the planet at that time and the film is unflinching in demonstrating the danger and excitement of the sport before it was made safer.
