Lead feet welcome! ODOT raises speed limit on US 33

Sep 27, 2013 7:17 PM

For those who drive U.S. Route 33 between Bellefontaine and Dublin, the trip didn’t get shorter, but the time to take it will.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has, for the second time this year, raised the speed limits on a number of US and State routes throughout the state, including the stretch of U.S. 33 between the U.S. Route 68 interchange and State Route 161 near Dublin. Starting Sunday, drivers will now be legally allowed to drive as fast as 70 miles per hour on the four-lane freeway.

A total of 398 miles of “rural freeways” – such as the road between Bellefontaine and Dublin - had their speed limits raised to 70 MPH throughout Ohio. Another 194 miles of “rural divided highways” had their limited raised to 60 MPH, none of which are located in Logan County.

The changes require that 1,100 signs, produced at the cost of $114,845, will be needed to post the new speed limits. ODOT expects that most of the signs will be in place by Friday, Oct. 4.
