Bill Not Passed to Allow Marine Patrol Fire Arms

And, Marine patrol officers still will not be able to carry fire arms.   Assemblyman Gary Finch and State Senator Michael Nozzolio sponsored a bill to designate marine patrol officers in Cayuga County as Peace Officers, which would allow them to carry fire arms, as they currently can not do so.

The bill stated that they needed Peace officer status in order to effectively patrol the changing waterways in New York.  The bill justifies this by saying that “with violent crime on the rise in Upstate New York, calls for service have increased the danger for the marine patrol,” and they need a way to protect themselves on such dangerous calls.

But the bill didn’t stand with Govenor Cuomo who vetoed it in court last week.
