Flu Season Nears

Believe it or not, flu season is almost here in Illinois. After 130 people across the state died from flu during the 2012-13 season, Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, believes it’s crucial to encourage everyone to get a flu shot.

“The simplest, single, and easiest and safest thing that one can do is get a vaccination,” Hasbrouck said.

Gov. Pat Quinn set the example by receiving his flu shot on Friday.

Hasbrouck says the flu season typically runs from October to March, peaking in December and January. He emphasized that besides getting vaccinated, Illinoisans should practice the “three Cs”during that period: clean your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, and contain by staying home if you become sick.
