BHS competes in first band contest of the year (Audio included)

Sean DavisThe Bellefontaine Marching Band traveled to Columbus Grove Saturday to compete in an Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District band contest.

Class A bands were Bellefontaine and Berne Union. Class C bands included Ft. Recovery, Riverside, Crestview, Woodmore, Ottoville, Kalida, Lehman, Lincolnview, and Columbus Grove. The only band in Class B was Wauseon. Findlay was in Class AA.

Bellefontaine earned an "excellent rating" in their first contest of the school year.

"Superior ratings" went to Wauseon, Berne Union, Findlay, and Columbus Grove. The four schools qualified for State Contest.

Other awards that were presented for the night were for Best Percussion and Auxiliary for each class, and a first place overall award was presented to Berne Union High School.

The Bellefontaine band only performed 3 of their 4 songs, but plan on having the fourth song on the field by their next contest.

Director Nick Pelfrey plans to continue to learn from this experience and keep the band moving towards more success.

The OMEA State Contest is later this fall.
