Panthers, Jaguars Play to 1-1 Draw

The Panther men’s soccer team opened Summit League action Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 tie against the IUPUI Jaguars.. EIU improves to 0-6-2 on the season.

Ian Block scored his second goal of the season in the ninth minute to give the Jaguars (0-7-3, 0-0-1 Summit) an early 1-0 lead. Neither team found the back of the net until the Panthers knotted the match at one in the 76th minute on a goal scored by Garet Christianson, his fourth goal of the season. Will Butler was credited with an assist as he crossed the ball into the box from the left to set up the Christianson goal.

The Panthers finished the contest with six more shots (19-13) than IUPUI, including a 4-3 advantage in the overtime periods. EIU also had four more corner kicks (7-3) in the match. Both squads committed 21 fouls.

Christianson led a group of six Panthers who had multiple shots as the redshirt-sophomore forward had four shots (three on goal). Jake Plant also had four shots for EIU. Lance Davis paced the Jaguars with five shots (one on goal).

Garrett Creasor (0-2-1) made three saves and allowed one goal between the pipes for EIU while Christian Lomeli (0-1-1) made five saves and surrendered one goal for IUPUI.

The Panthers return to action at Western Illinois on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
