Responding to a fish kill, Illinois' Environmental Protection Agency wants to compel a railroad company to help with cleanup and turn over all information on a train that derailed into the Spoon River this month.
According to reports, agency director Lisa Bonnett asked the Attorney General's Office to pursue action against the railway company Thursday.
The collapse of a bridge sent six of the train's cars into the Spoon River on Sept. 16 at Seville (SEE'-vihl).
It was operated by the Keokuk Junction Railway and was hauling corn syrup. Company officials could not be reached for comment.
Environmental authorities responded after reports of dead fish downstream near Bernadotte.
The company is on site to clear fish. The EPA also wants them to remove contaminated soil.
