Bond Set For Man Charged In University of Illinois Student's Death

Sep 30, 2013 8:03 AM

Bond has been set at $10 million for a man charged in the stabbing death of a University of Illinois student from China.

Reports indicate 29-year-old Yongfei Ci is being held on a preliminary charge of murder.

Police say Ci is a University of Illinois Ph.D. student who's also from China. They say he's the ex-boyfriend of Mengchen Huang, who was killed Friday morning in her Urbana apartment.

Prosecutors said Saturday that Ci has been studying in Rhode Island but returned to Urbana because he thought Huang was cheating on him.

They say one of Huang's friends was visiting when Ci arrived and that he locked her in the bathroom. The friend later escaped and called police.
