Simon To Host Illinois River Council Meeting In Peoria

Oct 1, 2013 7:40 AM

Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is encouraging people to participate in a forum promoting conservation and recreation on the Illinois River.

The Democrat from Carbondale on Tuesday will host the quarterly meeting of the Illinois River Coordinating Council meeting in Peoria.

Public discussion will center on whether to seek a "Blue Trail" designation from the conservation group American Rivers. A Blue Trail is a waterway adopted by a local community that works to improve recreation including fishing, boating and wildlife-watching.

The meeting is part of the 14th Biennial Governor's Conference on the Management of the Illinois River System.

Members of the Mississippi and Wabash-Ohio River Coordinating Councils will attend, along with mayors from the Mississippi River and Towns Initiative.
