TheAppleN'Pork Festival is an opportunity for non-profit groups across Clinton and DeWitt County to raise money, and in fact, many groups raise all they will need for each year.
One local youth group this year though has decided to use the money they raise for something special. Youth Minister of the Clinton Presbyterian Church, Ross Puckett says his kids this year are going to sponsor a couple children in Africa through a Christian Organization.
It will cost the youth of the Presbyterian Church around $70 a month. Puckett explains the money will go towards basic necessities, but it will also help the organization do things to build the community in which the children live.
Most of the money the Youth Group was able to raise went towards support the two children they have adopted. Puckett indicates eventually they would like to take a mission trip to Africa and help in the community in which they support. He notes that is something they believe in as a congregation.
Puckett says the money raised will also help fund activities they do through the course of the year. He says they try to attend a concert or two each year, they also attend Christian youth gatherings and the money also supports their events locally.
