Esmond woman dies in DeKalb County car crash (Updated)

An autopsy in DeKalb County yesterday indicated that an Esmond woman died from injuries following a single vehicle crash early Monday morning.

66-year old Susan Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident took place at around 5am on Esmond Road, just south of Mowers Road, in rural Esmond.

Reports indicate that Walker drove around barricades indicating the bridge on Esmond Road was closed due to construction. Her vehicle entered the construction site and struck the bridge abutment.

A passerby found Walker slumped over in the car.

Dekalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said that they will learn if Walker had any medical problems prior to the accident once results come back from the toxicology report. That should take a few weeks.

The crash remains under investigation.
