The Mayor said the increase was proposed during the 2013 budget deliberations as part of the plan to alleviate high debt repayments; complete the transition from borrowing to a pay-as-you-go approach by 2018; and set course to get back to fiscal accountability over the next 5 years. His Honor will hold listening sessions on the proposed 2014 budget at city hall on Thursday, Oct. 24th, at 10:30 A.M. & at 6:30 P.M.

 About 800,000 federal workers are clearing desks before they are furloughed as the federal government partially shuts down today. Even though they won't be working, all past shut-downs have seen workers getting paid for those days when the shut-down ends.

Gov. Walker is checking having the state provide its own health insurance for employees. A consultant says the savings (by avoiding Obamacare fees & taxes) would be about 4 or 5%, At least 20 other states self-insure their workers.
