Statements Made By Karl Karlsen Can Be Used At Trial

Seneca County Judge Dennis Bender has ruled that statements Karl Karlsen made to his wife Cindy, and to police officers can be used at his upcoming murder trial later this month.

Judge Bender released his 13-page decision today, after several days of testimony this summer over what evidence will be allowed at the murder trial that starts with jury selection on October 21st.

In his conclusion Bender wrote "The Defendant's motion to suppress the statements made to Cindy Karlsen on November 14, 2012 and November 16, 2012, and to law enforcement officials on November 23, 2012 should be, and hereby is, denied."

Seneca County authorities charged Karlsen on November 24, 2012  with murdering his 23-year old son Levi. Prosecutors say Karl Karlsen caused a pickup truck to fall off a jack onto his son while Levi Karlsen was working under the truck.

Just 17-days before Levi's death, a $700,000 dollar insurance policy on Levi was purchased and named Karl as the sole beneficiary.

California police have also re-opened an investigation into a 1991 fire that killed Karlsen's wife, Christina.
