Algoma graduate Loni (Guilette) Dier ’81  is the focus of this week’s “Alumni Spotlight.”  Dier participated in volleyball, basketball and track in her distinguished high school sports career.

Following high school,  Dier attended Moorehead State in Kentucky, where she played  four years of Division one basketball.  After his senior season in 1985, Dier returned to the area and worked in Green Bay.

As far as her best high school memory, Dier remembers the three basketball state tournament runs in Madison her sophomore, junior and senior years.  Algoma claimed its first state championship in 1981, her last year.

Dier remembers facing tough competition from  Luxemburg-Casco and Southern Door in the Packerland Conference during her high school career.  Namely, Connie (Knuth) Baudhuin from Southern Door and  Lynn (Wautlet) Geier from Luxemburg-Casco who daughters recently competed against each other.

Dier still loves basketball and still plays recreationally in the area.  Her one piece of advice to current student athletes is to enjoy other school activities as well and commit to practicing because you’ll never have the chance to play high school sports again.

Dier lives in Algoma and works at Forestville Builders & Supply in Forestville, along with her husband Jeff.  They recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary and have three daughters; Rebecca, Lizzy and Anna.  Anna, a sophomore, was on the Algoma team that won the State Basketball title last March in Green Bay.   Like mother, like daughter, 32 years later!
