Mayor Calls Aggregation A Success

A year and a half ago, voters in Alton, Godfrey and Bethalto voted to engage in municipal electric aggregation. The Mayor of Godfrey continues to spread the news of cost savings. Some residents report a savings of as much as 36 percent on the electric supply portion of their monthly power bills, and Mike McCormick says the savings will continue for at least two more years, with new rates locked in until 2016

McCormick attended a recent meeting where Good Energy - the company that brought aggregation to the area - hosted the bidding for the aggregate. He says rates around the Riverbend will come in at around 4.6 cents per kilowatt hour.

He says while the rate went up a little over the rate currently being paid, it is still quite a bit lower than if aggregation were not offered. In other board-business from this week, it was announced that after nearly a year of trying to determine which agency was responsible, the street light at the intersection of Humbert and Seiler Roads will be reinstalled. Ameren will do the work, at no expense to the Village or to Madison County. As was the case in the past, Godfrey will pay the monthly bill.
