Martha Robertson, Chair of the Tompkins County Legislature and 23rd Congressional District candidate, was in Elmira Wednesday to call on Congressman Tom Reed to do his part and help end the government shutdown.

Robertson said the people she met with are like most Americans and that's fed up with how the federal government is operating.

When contacted Wednesday afternoon, Reed's office issued a statement saying The Corning Republican had voted in support of three House measures Tuesday, including the Honoring Our Promise to American’s Veterans Act, which would make funds available immediately for the Department of Veterans Affairs, including funding for veterans disability payments, VA home loans, the GI Bill and education training.
