Local Lawmaker Not Pleased With Possibility of ADM Receiving Incentives

Alocallawmakersayshe does not agree with ADM asking for the state of Illinois to provide them with up to $20-million in incentives to move their headquarters from Decatur to Chicago.
State Representative Bill Mitchell says he has nothing against ADM leaving, but he feels it is wrong for them to ask for the state to fund their potential move to Chicago. He says he appreciates ADM's presence and the people they employ.
Rep. Mitchell feels this whole proposal of giving ADM $20-million in incentives to stay in Illinois is special treatment. He says there are small businesses that are stuck in Illinois that have to pay the high taxes of the state, and they aren't receiving any incentives.
Rep. Mitchell feels what is happening right now is a shake down of the tax payers. He says this scenario has played out before, and feels it's all becoming a matter of citizens and businesses wanting more government.
Some lawmakers have stated they hope to see this lead to a universal tax incentive system for businesses in Illinois. Rep. Mitchell says this specialized tax incentive system is not going to work. He wants to look at reforming the system for everyone instead of companies with a lot of "clout".
Rep. Mitchell stresses he is not opposed to ADM or it's business. He, along with many other lawmakers, feels it is wrong to fund a move for ADM from one side of the state to another.
The tax-incentive would have to be approved by lawmakers before ADM could receive it.
