Clinton Chamber Haunted House Called Off

The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau Thursday afternoon announced, that their annual haunted house “Terror on Washington Street” will not open for the 2013 season.

According to a media release from Chamber executive director Marian Brisard, the annual event has provided significant income to the chamber and great outreach for community volunteerism for the past 19 years bringing thousands of visitors to the city.

Brisard's media release went on to state that the chamber received a letter from the Clinton Fire Department last week outlining significant improvements necessary to meet current codes that would be required prior to opening. The cost for these improvements is approximately $60,000 and beyond the means of the chamber. Despite discussions and attempts to provide interim safety solutions for this year and asking for a waiver, the only option acceptable was an approved sprinkler system and that is cost prohibitive.

Brisard's media release went on to say that the “Terror on Washington Street” haunted house has always operated with the safety of their volunteers, the general public, and staff in mind for almost nineteen years.
The Clinton Chamber thanks all those who have worked long and hard toward this year’s event and to apologize to the public for the advance marketing already in the public forum.

Brisard says that the event is a significant part of the chamber’s annual fund raising efforts and the chamber will work diligently to find a way to counter the loss.

Plans for a possible Haunted House next year, are unsure at this time according to Clinton Chamber officials.
