State Fire Marshall's Office Behind Closure of Clinton Haunted House

Earlierintheweek it was revealed the Clinton Chamber's Haunted House "Terror on Washington Street" was shut down due to safety violations within the building.

The violations had to do with the sprinkler system within the building on Washington Street. Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton explains he was instructed by the State Fire Marshall's office to look into the facility.

While it might appear like the Clinton Fire Department is behind the closure of the Haunted House, Chief Milton explains they were simply following the orders of the State Fire Marshall's Office. He says the Fire Marshall's office was tipped off to the potential violations. The Chief says they generally rely on other organizations to inform them of possible violations.

Chief Milton adds, the Haunted House is considered an amusement classification, and because of that, they have to meet certain standards.

Chief Milton credits Marian Brisard, Executive Director of the Clinton Chamber, for doing a great job of keeping the place up to date and safe. He says he feels bad he had to do what he did. Chief Milton says other similar attractions have been turned in around the area for similar violations.
