Barktoberfest Raises $3,500 for Geneva's Bark Park (Photos)

Dogs of all shapes and sizes ran around the Geneva Lakefront Park Saturday. “Barktoberfest” was a fundraiser for the planned Geneva Bark Park.

The event raised about $3,500. So far about $4,500 has been raised for the bark park. The committee is looking to raise $40,000 for the park that will be built on a 1-acre site near the city’s ice rink. The area used to be the site of the old playground, which has been removed for safety reasons. Corporate donations are also being sought.

The day included kids fun runs, a 5K race, a 5K with dogs, and pup-kin dog costume contest. There were also several vendors including dog photos, dog-tag making, Little Wet Paws dog grooming, The Beverly Animal Shelter, Second Chance Dog Rescue, and Wegman’s.

The bark park is the idea of Irene Canario of Castle Street in Geneva. She submitted it through the city’s Civic Innovation Hub and it was approved by the Geneva City Council.

They hope to have the bark park open by next spring.
