Iowa DOT Tackling Traffic Camera Issue

Oct 7, 2013 6:04 AM

Iowa transportation officials are tackling the issue of traffic cameras.  Iowa is the only state in the nation that allows the cameras to be installed permanently on its highways.  On Tuesday, the Department of Transportation will appear before a legislative committee with a proposal that would require proof there's a critical safety-based need before a camera can be installed. Lawmakers are split on whether the cameras should be banned, or whether cities and counties should decide the issue for themselves.
