Over the weekend the House of Representatives passed a bill guaranteeing back pay for Federal employees furloughed during the government shutdown. The bill, put forth by Representatives Cheri Bustos and Dave Loebsack, essentially guarantees that workers at the Rock Island Arsenal will be paid for the time they have lost due to the government shutdown. The hope is that guaranteeing the pay of these workers will blunt the economic impact of the shutdown on the Quad Cities. The impact was estimated last week at about a million dollars per day lost by local businesses and industries that cater to employees of the Rock Island Arsenal. Representative Bustos will be Sean Patrick's guest today on Mid Morning in the Cities.
