TRIAD Senior Academy Series of Programs Begin Today

Oct 7, 2013 8:08 AM

TheSeniorAcademy sponsored by the DeWitt County Triad begins today.

The Academy will focus on personal and financial safety for people over 50. Local leaders and businesses will present relevant information for those attending. Sissy Leggett, Executive Director of the DeWitt County Friendship Center, explains that you do not have to go to all four seminars. Some of the first topics covered will be identity theft and financial scams.

Other topics will include home safety, staying strong and legal aspects. Leggitt adds that seniors are constantly the targets of scams. They are products of an era where people were more trusting. This Academy will inform seniors of various scams put on by fake social security offices and banks. Leggett says it's always important to verify each caller.

The first two seminars will be today, October 7th. They will focus on identity theft from 9-10 and financial scams from 10:30-11.

Tuesday October 15th will feature speakers on home safety and staying strong.

Monday, October 21st, will be a drivers license review.

Monday, October 28th, will focus on crime prevention and legal aspects.

All classes will be held at the Warner Library beginning at 9am. Walk-Ins are welcome but you can sign up at Friendship Center.
