Young Black Bear Spotted In Yates County

He was 2 feet high...4 feet long...80 to 100 pounds...jet black and about a year old. There was a confirmed black bear sighting Sunday afternoon on property next to the Middlesex Conservation Club on South Hill in Yates County. DEC Fish and Wildlife Technician Jeb McConnell says bears rarely expose themselves in broad daylight.
If you come across a black bear, they will let you know if you are bothering them.
If the bear confronts you, make some noise.
Young male bears roam a good distance trying to find a new home when they are kicked out of the den by their mothers.
