ADA Transition Plan Gets First Approval

The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has given the city's Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan its first approval. The city is required to come up with a transition plan since it has 50 or more employees. The plan calls on municipalities to bring streets and sidewalks up to standards set by the ADA.

Matt Asselmeier, Alton's Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator, says providing real-world testing is likely.

Asselmeier comments

He says there will be a priority list put together to address the most urgent needs, but if there is a complaint about a particular place, that will go to the front of the line. The measure is expected to receive final approval at the Alton City Council meeting tomorrow night.
