Russells Point Council discussed Monday the village police department's levy on the November ballot.

The three mill levy would be used to sustain the department's current coverage. The department currently has two officers paid for by the village and a third funded through a grant. When that grant expires the village will not be able to pay the third officer unless the levy passes.

The levy would generate $94,000 annually. The average homeowner in Russells Point would pay $45.95 each year or 87 cents a week.

The third officer would allow for increased community outreach, reduce response times, and maintain current services.

Indian Lake Local Schools Superintendent Pat O'Donnell and school board member Steve Spath spoke about the district's renewal levy with increase on the November ballot. The 5.6 mills renewal will raise $2,057,500 and the 1.6 mill increase will generate $732,000. The levy would cost a $100,000 household $28 semi-annually.

Representatives from Verizon were present to answer questions on the temporary and permanent towers.

Steve Zirkle was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

The village office will be closed on Monday, October 14th in observance of Columbus Day.

The Neighborhood Watch will conduct a bake sale on Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Police Chief Joe Freyhof will speak at the Day of Remembrance and Hope event on October 18th. The event is being conducted for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Chief Freyhof comments on the levy and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Village of Russells Point Council will meet again on October 21st at 7 pm.
