The head of a group that keeps an eye on frivolous lawsuits is promoting Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week in Illinois. Travis Akin, Director of Illinois Lawsuit Abuse Watch, says the group is asking everyone in the state to serve on juries, take personal responsibility, and become smart legal consumers.
Travis Akin says the message they are trying to promote is "Stopping Lawsuit Abuse Starts With You."
Akin says the Metro-East is widely viewed as the Lawsuit Abuse Capital of America, and that is why his group chose the County Courthouses in Madison and St. Clair counties to hold public awareness events Tuesday morning.
