Cumberland School District Approves Fiscal Year 2014 Budget

August is the time for school districts to write out their Fiscal Year Budget and put that budget on public file for residents to review and ask questions as necessary. During a school district's September Board Meeting, they will officially have a budget hearing to discuss resident's concerns and take any necessary steps to correct problems and that's exactly what the Cumberland School District last month, as Superintendent John Hasten told WRJM News that they did find an error in the budget that needed to be corrected.
Once the school board convened in regular session, they went ahead and approved the Tentative Budget for Fiscal Year 2014.
As part of their board agenda, Superintendent Hasten told WRJM News that every governmental body must conduct an Annual Audit Report and the Cumberland School Board reviewed theirs at the meeting.
Projects are always ongoing at a school district. The Cumberland School District is looking to replace Water Softeners at each of the schools cafeterias.
Each year, the Illinois State Board of Education will review and update policies as necessary. According to Hasten, this is on the board's agenda at the beginning of every school year as it helps the district keep on top of possible new changes.

In the district's Board and Administrative Reports, Superintendent Hasten told WRJM News that the Class of 1958 made a $500 donation to the track.

As part of their Consent Agenda, Superintendent Hasten talked about the report of Recognition of Public Schools that the board needs to approve each and every year.

The Cumberland School Board meets in regular session the fourth Thursday of the month inside their Unit Office beginning at 7:00 pm.
