Clinton City Council Rejects Adjusting City's Liquor Codes

Mondaynight,the Clinton City Council discussed moving forward with a possible ordinance to expand the hours which liquor is served in Clinton.

No ordinance was ever put on file, Mayor Carolyn Peters brought the idea before the Council to think about and discuss before moving forward if there was enough support for it. Commissioner John Wise says he never has been nor will he ever be in favor of liquor sales in the community on Sunday's.

The issue of opening up Sunday's for liquor sales in Clinton are driven by local businesses wanting to have the gaming devices in their establishments usable on Sunday's, so they can receive the proceeds. The gaming devices are controlled by the state of Illinois, and Commissioner Tom Edmunds says the deficiency is at the state level and not the local level.

Commissioner Jerry Milton did not show support for the idea either.

While she did not go into a great amount of detail, but Commissioner Nan Crang said she would have no problem with the establishments serving alcohol on Sunday's and opening up the gaming devices for use then as well.

Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters has said in the past she would not support this ordinance.
