Teen driver cited for injury accident

A local teen driver was cited following a one-vehicle injury crash on Stockyard Road just west of the railroad tracks Tuesday afternoon around 2:50.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports that Daisy Schmelzer, 17, of Kenton, was driving a 2003 Chevy Cavalier westbound on Stockyard Road when she lost control, then drove off the left side of the road and struck an embankment.

Schmelzer had possible injuries, but she was not transported by a squad.

Passenger Alyssa Becraft, 16, of Kenton, suffered minor injuries. She was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS.

Both teens were wearing their seat belts.

Schmelzer was cited for failure to control. She told deputies that she swerved to avoid an oncoming car.

Her vehicle suffered moderate damage.
