Higher Speed Limit, Landlord Powers, "Brown Jug" See Action In Madison

You may soon be legally driving 70 on some state highways. The bill raising the speed limit to 70 miles an hour passed the Assembly Transportation Committee 9 to 6 yesterday. It now goes to the full assembly. Those opposing the bill – including some law enforcement officials and Triple-A of Wisconsin – say more research is required.

The so-called Brown Jug Bill that would allow liquor sellers to file a $1,000 lawsuit against someone using a fake ID is headed to the full State Assembly for a vote. The bill is based on an Alaska law and is aimed at deterring those under 21 from trying to buy alcohol.

Landlords will be able to throw out the stuff you leave behind without notice, have your improperly parked vehicle towed without calling the cops, and evict you if a crime is committed in your rental unit under a bill that passed the Assembly yesterday. Republicans voted in favor, Democrats against. After the Senate sees the bill again, it goes to the Governor.
