Kids Turning To Heroin As Drug Of Choice

More teenagers are apparently turning to heroin as their drug of choice. State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant says kids don’t always understand the risks of using the drug and it’s actually killing them at alarming rates.

Senator Bertino-Tarrant is part of a new task force aimed at cracking down on the problem.

State Senator Andy Manar says that’s true for kids in just about every area of the state.

Senator Manar is on a task force designed to help combat the problem. He says it’s not the first time the state has had to step in for this type of issue.

Lawmakers say parents should never underestimate that their child will get involved in using drugs. They urge parents to talk to their kids and encourage them to stay away from drugs. Members of a new task force say they’re looking to find ways to make parents, kids, and educators more aware of the issue.
