United Way Gearing Up For Annual DeWitt County Fund Drive

TheUnitedWayof Decatur and Mid-Illinois is gearing up for their annual fund drive in DeWitt County.
The United Way supports several area non-profit agencies. According to Director of Community Impact, James Keith, the drive in Macon County has been underway for some time, and they are actively talking with businesses to support their cause.
The goal for this year's drive in Macon County is $2-million, which is up from last year's goal. Keith attributes the success of their previous drives to the support of the community. He says businesses in Decatur are huge supporters of them and their programs.
Each county the United Way has a drive of it's own. Keith explains any money raised within each county, stays in that county. According to Keith, they collect that money and put together a panel that looks at the agencies they endorse and makes a decision of how to distribute it.
Keith explains the agencies endorsed by the United Way almost always ask for more money than they are able to raise, but he says that is because the need is there for each organization. According to Keith, it is always a tough decision for the ten people they have that have to make those decisions.
